2-Year Study Backs Efficacy of Chiropractic Care for Scoliosis Pain
Scoliosis, a lifelong disease, affects up to 9 million people in the United States alone. It’s known for its habit of worsening over time when left untreated. At Allen County Chiropractic Wellness Center in Fort Wayne, we want you to take advantage of the pain relief benefits chiropractic care has to offer scoliosis patients.
A Two Years of Analysis of Chiropractic Care’s Impact on Scoliosis
Mark W. Morningstar’s 2011 study, observed how a chiropractic exercise program impacted 28 adult scoliosis patients.
Morningstar compared patients’ before-and-after Cobb angle (curve in the spine). Most patients’ Cobb angles improved approximately 10° across all curvature groups, pain levels improved by 39% after 6 months, and then another 21% by the two year marker. Patients also experienced less disability, improving from a baseline of 60% disability to 30% disability at 6 months and 18% disability at 24 months.
These are phenomenal results, especially considering that they were achieved without drugs, braces or surgery. Every last patient achieved some degree of pain relief, and those who completed treatment improved their Cobb angle and spirometry.
Treat Scoliosis at Allen County Chiropractic Wellness Center
Our chiropractors utilize various methods to treat scoliosis. We will perform a thorough exam to ensure accurate diagnosis before providing any form of treatment. Our goal is to correct the underlying cause of your pain so you can finally achieve true pain relief. We offer chiropractic care, acupuncture, myofascial release and massage therapy to assist in treating scoliosis.
Acupuncture provides pain relief by stimulating your body to release endorphins, the body’s natural pain-killing chemicals. Essentially, acupuncture grabs your body’s attention and signals for it to bring healing to the treated site.
Myofascial release and massage therapies work to balance muscle strength and flexibility, thus bringing your body back into alignment. This allows for better bodily functions and promotes pain relief, and massage supports and reinforces chiropractic care.
